SANDRINGHAM DRAGONS v GWV REBELS: Live Game Updates

This year's Coates Talent League Grand Final promises to deliver a thrilling chapter of history, as the Sandringham Dragons face off against the Greater Western Victoria (GWV) Rebels. The stakes are high: Sandringham is chasing a historic third consecutive title, while the Rebels are making their first Grand Final appearance since 1997, looking to break a decades-long drought.

Two teams with contrasting seasons will battle it out in the Grand Final. The Dragons have once again been a dominant force, with a near-flawless regular season, showcasing depth and top-tier talent across the board. In contrast, the GWV Rebels have surged to the final after a remarkable postseason campaign, having finished 11th in the home-and-away season. Both teams have traveled very different paths to reach this decider, setting the stage for an unpredictable and exciting contest.

Q1 6:30 Sam Marshall has stamped his influence early in the piece, impacting at the centre stoppage before moving forward to kick his first of the game from a set shot.  12-0

Q1 14:30 Relentless pressure from the Dragons moving inside 50 adds another, Harry Armstrong on the end of this one. It was all set up 30 seconds prior by a Lenny Hoffman contested intercept mark. 25-0

Q1 21:30 Surkitt kicks his first of the game, is it over?  37-0
QT 25:00

That was something, all Dragons that is. GWV have had the footy, but they're struggling to combat the Dragons depth of class with easy chains of transition moving inside 50.

STAT LEADERS:

Sam Marshall - 9 disposals, 2 goals

Levi Ashcroft - 9 disposals, 1 goal

Murphy Reid - 7 disposals, 1 goal

Jack Ough - 7 disposals, 4 marks

37-0
Q2 0:00 Second term underway! 37-0

44-0
Q1 4:20 The Dragons are 50 POINTS up with the Rebels yet to score. Jack Surkitt sneakily found space inside 50 and converted the set shot for his second of the day.  50-0
Q1 13:00 GWV finally got their hands on the footy moving inside 50, but shots on goal from Jack Ough and Reggie Mast went wide, whilst the Dragons kicked another up the other end through Sam Buck.  57-2
Q1 16:00 He's stood up all post-season and he's come up big for the Rebels. Ollie Hannaford nails a difficult set shot from 50 metres out and the Rebels faithful come to life! 57-8
Q1 18:00 Two in a row! Floyd Burmeister snaps from close range and the Rebels are alive... 57-14
Q1 22:30 Ashcroft is continuing his claim for BOG! He snaps his second from 35 metres out and the Dragons have sucked any real life out of the Rebels.  63-14
HT 25:00

They're an unstoppable force, and they've proved it the whole first half. The Dragons take a commanding 55 point lead into half time. They've nearly got both hands on the trophy, and three in a row is looking extremely promising.

STAT LEADERS:

Sam Marshall: 14 disposals, 2 goals

Levi Ashcroft: 12 disposals, 2 goals

Jack Surkitt: 2 goals

Jack Ough: 10 disposals, 5 marks

Ollie Hannaford: 8 disposals, 1 goal

69-14
Q3 2:50 The Rebels get off to a strong start in the third quarter, capitalising on the forward run of Ollie Hannaford, who set up Fraser Molan for a shot on goal.  69-20
Q3 11:00 Wow. It should be renamed the Levi Ashcroft pocket with the amount of insane drop punt goals he's kicked from there. Levi could walk out for the Lions in 3 hours...  81-20
3QT 25:00 The Rebels kick two in a row to finish the third term, but it's still been all Dragons, they're one quarter away from premiership glory! 89-39
Q4 1:00 GWV off to a good start courtesy of a Reggie Mast trap inside 50, dishing it off to Harry Lawson who set up Floyd Burmeister for his second goal, this time from a set shot.  89-45
Q4 9:00 Playing out as expected, both sides are playing this game out with a lack of energy, but the intensity is still there.  97-47
Q4 12:40 Some reward for effort for two Rebels, Unwin and Mast. They hit the scoreboard with nice on-the-run shots. Since the Dragons went up 51-0, it's been 46-59 in favour of the Rebels.  103-65
FULL TIME SANDY ARE PREMIERS! THREE YEARS IN A ROW! 103-66
